Hide My Screen is made by Blue Speck Ltd ("Blue Speck", "we", "us", or "our"), a company registered in the United Kingdom. This policy explains what data the Hide My Screen app and the hidemyscreen.app website collect, why, and what you can do about it.

1. The app

• No data leaves your Mac. The app does not send usage data, analytics, or anything you see or type to us or to anyone else. It works offline.
• Local usage counters: The app keeps a few counters on your Mac, such as how long the overlay has been on in total. They are used only to decide things like when to ask for an App Store rating, and are never transmitted.
• Accessibility permission (Full version): The Full version uses macOS Accessibility APIs to find the position of your text cursor so the keyhole can follow your typing. It reads the cursor position only, not the text you type, and nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
• Browser extension: The Hide My Screen browser extension watches for key presses on the pages you visit only to work out where on the page you are typing, so the keyhole can follow along. It does not read or store what you type. It sends cursor coordinates to the app over a connection on your own computer only. Nothing is sent over the internet, to us or to anyone else.
• App Store purchases: Purchases in the App Store version are handled by Apple. We do not receive your payment details. Apple's privacy policy applies to those transactions.
• Operating system data: If you have opted in to sharing analytics with Apple, macOS may share anonymised crash and usage data with app developers. This is controlled by your system settings.

2. The website

• Analytics: We use PostHog (hosted in the EU) to understand how visitors use the site: pages viewed, clicks, referring site, approximate location, browser, device type, and page performance. IP addresses are anonymised. PostHog may also record anonymised session replays of how the page was used, which helps us fix layout and usability problems. We use this data only to improve the website and app.
• Cookies and local storage: PostHog stores an identifier in a cookie and in your browser's local storage so that visits can be counted correctly. We do not use advertising cookies or share data with advertisers. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings without affecting the site.
• Mailing list: If you join a waitlist or ask us to email you, we collect your email address (and, where relevant, the platform you are interested in). It is stored in TinyList, our own mailing list service, and used only to send you Hide My Screen news, releases, and the links you asked for. When you sign up we also record your IP address, browser user agent, approximate country, device type, and the page that referred you, to prevent abuse and to understand where signups come from. If you ask us to email you the download link, we send you that email, and your address is stored on the same list. We do not share it with third parties; emails are delivered through Amazon Web Services' email sending service (Amazon SES), which processes your address only to deliver them. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
• Purchases: Purchases of the Full version are processed by Polar, who act as merchant of record. Polar collects your name, email address, and payment details to complete the order and send your download. We receive your email address and order details so we can provide support and refunds. We never see your full card details.
• Hosting: The website is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request data (such as IP address) to deliver and protect the site.

3. Legal basis and retention

We process website analytics on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding and improving our website. We process your email address on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing or emailing us. Purchase records are kept as long as required for tax and accounting purposes. Analytics data is kept for no longer than our analytics provider's standard retention period, and session replays for no more than 30 days.

4. Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask to access, correct, delete, or export the personal data we hold about you, and object to or restrict how we use it. Email us at the address below and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

5. Data protection and security

We collect as little as we can, use reputable providers, and limit access to the data we hold. We do not sell your personal data.
